Hi, We’re the Williams family—Kim, Liz, Ned and Katja—and we’re proud to welcome you to Polldale Shorthorns, our family-run stud just outside Dubbo, NSW. Here on the farm, you’ll find three generations of passionate Shorthorn breeders (3rd, 4th and 5th generation) living and working side-by-side.
With over 65 years of breeding behind us, Shorthorns are more than just cattle—they’re our way of life.
Across those six decades, we’ve built a reputation for producing quality seedstock with strength, structure, and quiet temperament. We’ve had our fair share of highlights—like averaging $26,800 for five bulls at the Dubbo National in 2021—but it’s the ongoing support from our clients that keeps us doing what we love.
This year, we’re excited to be offering 40 powerful, paddock-ready bulls and commercial females in our on-property bull sale—a decision inspired by encouragement from clients, agents, and friends who’ve seen the strength of our recent drops. We’ve reached a level of quality we’re incredibly proud of, and we truly believe these bulls stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the industry.
At Polldale, our focus is simple: we breed easy-care, productive cattle that meet the needs of both stud and commercial breeders—because we know what it takes to run cattle in the real world.
We’d love to see you at the sale or welcome you on-farm for a private inspection. Get in touch and see for yourself what generations of breeding and belief in the Shorthorn breed can achieve.
Warm regards,
The Williams Family

Richard came from a family who bred shorthorn cattle for well over 100 years and he himself continued this tradition breeding his own shorthorn cattle for 50 years.
Richard and I had stuck with shorthorns because of their temperament and ability to do well on our property.
Over the years of breeding shorthorns we had sourced bulls from various studs but for the last 30 years we had been purchasing the much superior Polldale bulls.
Since investing in Polldale we have noticed an improvement in frame, coat, softness ability to cope with the diversity of the climate/environment especially flooding and prolonged drought conditions.
Most importantly an excellent temperament, it was important to have a herd that was easy to work with and handle for their ageing carers and we felt that using Polldale bulls allowed us to achieve this.
We have been breeding Shorthorns all our lives.
Breed fashions have changed over the years, but well bred and well finished cattle have always sold well. Shorthorns, as a purebred, will hold their own anywhere. They are good mothers and as long as you look after their nutrition they will look after everything else.
We have been using Polldale bulls for over 50 years, as i know or have confidence in their female families. Their sale progeny have been at the top or equal top of many markets.
To Quote one agent, “I love dealing with well bred cattle”. At the shows and sales, I like to admire the other stud stock, but end up with a Polldale bull as I know what is behind the good looks.
The Hawkins family have always had shorthorns there has never been any reason to change.
